My target 100 kms

30/6/2025

Well, I made it!

I'm sure the kids at school have thought I'm nuts as I wear a path around the yard during my yard duties over the month.
I've answered the question "hey sir, why are you walking" so many times.....I always answer with "because I had a heart attack last year, and I don't want to have another one!"

Initially set my fundraising target to $500, but thanks to everyone's kind donations, I reset it to $1000, and then $1500. I'm only $72 from hitting that goal, which to me is mind blowing!

What's also mind blowing is that this fat old man has managed to do 105km in a month. That's 3.4kms per day. As someone who would routinely drive around the carpark to get a park closest to the door, this is a huge change for me. Especially as about 10kms of this was running. Well jogging. Or maybe a reasonable imitation of the Cliff Young Shuffle...
And i never run.... maybe for a pie or a rum can.....

But here I am

105kms+ in a month.

I aimed to do 84, but was challenged to hit 100. hoping to maybe get to 110 by tonight if i do a few more laps of the oval before midnight.

When i had my heart attack back in March last year, I weighed 129kg. I got down to 113ishkg last year, and then hit the unmagic number of 121kg late May this year.

This was the trigger for me to get active again. And I found this fundraising challenge.

I've lost 6kg this month. Down to 115kg. I'm stoked with that, just feels really good to know that I'm doing something to make my life better.

My dog Buddy has been my companion for about 90ms of the walking I've done this month, I'm sure he's been amused by the "running" part.... but he's usually eager to go, except for that time i got up at 6am and he just looked at me and said "hell no fatso, way too cold for this black dog!"

Thanks everyone for your support, thanks for donating, for your cheering me on through your comments online and in person.

I think I might go for a walk!

Why the hell am I doing this?

14 months ago I had a heart attack.
Always been a big lad, didn’t think I was that out of shape, and everyone gets a little heavier as they get older, right?
Scared the fudge outta me.
angiogram, 98% blockage, stent went in
4-6 weeks from a life altering event. I should have been dead this time last year.

Time to lose the spare tire.
Did pretty well leading up to Xmas 24. Lost 15kg, down from 129 to 114. Summer/XMAS came: too hot. Too much good food, too much booze, too much sitting on my arse.
Back up to 121 today.
Not good enough fatboy

So we walk.
And we walk
And we raise some money for the much needed research and support for research into all things heart related.

#So we walk

Will you help me Run For Heart?

This June I'll be feeling my heartbeat as I move a marathon distance to support people in Australia impacted by heart disease.

But I need your support. Every donation you give really means so much to me as I go the distance this June.

Your generosity also goes a long way to support the 1 in 6 people in Australia living with cardiovascular disease.

You'll be helping fund more life-saving research and support that can transform heart disease diagnosis and treatment.

I'm ready to Run For Heart. Are you ready to help save lives? Please donate now.

3km in a day is easy, but 3km every day for a month will be a damn good effort! Great stuff, and good luck!
